Here's a fun experiment (well, maybe not fun): figure out what you've spent on vaping in the last year. Most people are shocked. Vapes are cheap enough per purchase that they never feel expensive, until you add them up.

Vape savings calculator
- Per month
- $200
- Per year
- $2,433
- In 5 years
- $12,173
- In 10 years
- $24,347
Example shown: a $20 vape that lasts 3 days. Change the numbers to match your habit. The Escape the Vape app tracks this automatically from your quit date.
The formula
If you want to do the math yourself:
Yearly cost = (price of one vape or pods ÷ days it lasts) × 365
Example: a $20 disposable that lasts 3 days costs $6.67 per day, which comes to about $2,433 per year.
What vaping costs at different usage levels
| Usage | Weekly spend | Per month | Per year | 5 years | 10 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | $15 | ~$65 | $780 | $3,900 | $7,800 |
| Moderate | $30 | ~$130 | $1,560 | $7,800 | $15,600 |
| Heavy | $60 | ~$260 | $3,120 | $15,600 | $31,200 |
| $20 disposable every 3 days | ~$47 | ~$203 | ~$2,433 | ~$12,170 | ~$24,330 |
These are examples, not averages. Prices vary a lot by device, brand, and where you live. Plug your own numbers into the calculator above.
The hidden costs most people forget
The price of the vape is just the start. Also count:
- Lost or broken devices. Everyone has left a vape in an Uber.
- Chargers, coils, and accessories
- Delivery fees and impulse buys when you run out at 1am
- Dental costs. Vaping is linked to dry mouth and gum problems (more on that)
- Time. Planning around charging, buying, and sneaking hits adds up too
What could you do with the money?
At ~$2,400 a year, quitting could pay for:
- A round-trip flight and a long weekend somewhere new
- A year of a gym membership plus new running shoes
- An emergency fund that actually lets you breathe
- A few months of rent, or a big dent in a credit card
Make your savings visible
One of the most motivating things you can do while quitting is watch the money pile up. When a craving hits, "I've saved $340" is a surprisingly strong argument.
The Escape the Vape app does this automatically. Enter what you used to spend and how long a vape lasted, and your home screen shows your money saved and pods escaped growing every day, right next to your vape-free streak.
Pro tip: Move the money you would have spent into a separate savings account each week. Then spend some of it on something just for you at each milestone: 1 week, 1 month, 3 months. You earned it.
