If you've ever finished an Elf Bar and wondered how much nicotine you just went through, you're asking a smart question. The honest answer is it depends on which Elf Bar, and which country you bought it in. The same brand sells very different products in the US and the UK, and the difference in nicotine is huge.

Below are the numbers we could confirm from Elf Bar's own product pages and from independent lab studies. Where we couldn't verify a model's volume and strength from a reliable source, we left it out rather than guess.

Elf Bar nicotine by model

To get total nicotine, multiply strength (mg/mL) by volume (mL). A strength of 50 mg/mL is roughly 5%, and 20 mg/mL is roughly 2%.

Model (main market) E-liquid volume Nicotine strength Total nicotine (label math) Lab-measured total
ELFBAR BC5000 (US) 13 mL (listed on US packaging) 50 mg/mL (5%); also sold at 3% and 0% about 650 mg at 5% about 272 mg per device (2024 study)
ELFBAR 600 disposable (UK/EU) 2 mL 20 mg/mL (2%); also 10 mg/mL and 0 about 40 mg at 2% about 35 mg per device (2024 study)
ELFBAR 600 prefilled pod (UK) 2 mL per pod 20 mg/mL (2%) about 40 mg per pod not tested

Sources for the table: Elf Bar's BC5000, 600, and 600 Prefilled Pod product pages, plus Leigh et al. (2024) in Addiction for the 13 mL US packaging figure and the lab measurements.

A couple of things to notice. A BC5000 at 3% would work out to about 390 mg on paper (30 mg/mL × 13 mL). And a single US BC5000 on its label holds about 16 times the nicotine of a UK Elf Bar 600.

Labels vs. what's actually inside

Here's where it gets interesting. In a study published in Addiction in 2024, researchers bought Elf Bars in Buffalo, New York, and in London in late 2022 and early 2023 and tested them in a lab.

  • US Elf Bar BC5000: labeled 13 mL at 5%. They measured about 6.5 mL of liquid at about 42 mg/mL, or roughly 272 mg of nicotine per device.
  • UK Elf Bar 600: labeled 2 mL at 2%. They measured about 1.8 mL at about 20 mg/mL, or roughly 35 mg per device.

So the US devices contained less than their labels suggested, but still about eight times more nicotine than the UK devices. The researchers also estimated the US Elf Bar delivered about four times more nicotine per puff.

A separate 2025 study tested 25 popular disposables, including four Elf Bar BC5000 flavors. Across all brands, 40% of devices had significantly less nicotine than labeled. The Elf Bar samples ranged from about 31 to 54 mg/mL, against labels of 40 or 50 mg/mL.

The takeaway: the label is a rough guide, not a precise dose.

Why US and UK Elf Bars are so different

It comes down to regulation. The UK follows the EU's Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) limits through its Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016:

  1. Nicotine e-liquid can't exceed 20 mg/mL.
  2. A disposable vape, single-use cartridge, or tank can't hold more than 2 mL.

In the US, as the 2024 study points out, FDA has not introduced product standards for disposable e-cigarettes, which is why products like the BC5000 are sold at 5% with a much larger reservoir. Other countries have their own rules, so the "same" Elf Bar can be a different product depending on where it was made to be sold. In the US, the brand has also been sold under the names EB Design and EB Create.

Elf Bar products do not have FDA marketing authorization, which is required to legally sell a new e-cigarette in the US. In 2023, FDA issued warning letters to 189 retailers for selling Elf Bar and Esco Bars and placed all products under both brands on an import alert, which lets the agency detain shipments at the border. In 2024, FDA warned 14 online retailers for selling unauthorized brands including Elf Bar/EB Design.

That matters for you because nobody at FDA has reviewed what's in these devices, including whether the nicotine matches the label. You can check whether any vape is authorized in FDA's Searchable Tobacco Products Database.

How to check your own Elf Bar

Specs change and counterfeits exist, so the most accurate number is the one on your box:

  1. Find the strength. Look for "mg/mL" or a percentage. 50 mg/mL ≈ 5%, 20 mg/mL ≈ 2%.
  2. Find the volume. Look for "mL" or "e-liquid capacity."
  3. Multiply them. 50 mg/mL × 13 mL = 650 mg. 20 mg/mL × 2 mL = 40 mg.
  4. Track how long one lasts you. If a 650 mg device lasts four days, that's roughly 160 mg of nicotine in the liquid you go through each day, by the label.

Remember: the nicotine in the liquid isn't the same as the nicotine your body absorbs. We walk through that math in how many cigarettes is one vape.

What this means if you want to quit

If you're going through a high-strength Elf Bar quickly, your body is used to a lot of nicotine, and withdrawal may feel stronger. That's not a reason to put off quitting. It's a reason to plan:

The bottom line

A UK Elf Bar 600 holds about 40 mg of nicotine. A US Elf Bar BC5000 is labeled at about 650 mg, and lab-tested devices held around 272 mg. Either way, knowing your number is a powerful first step. Once you can see it, you can start bringing it down to zero.
